Brush Up on AI - Marketing Smarter: How AI Gives You the Edge
....your go-to spot for practical tips, fresh ideas, and must-know updates on how AI is transforming the dental world (and beyond).
📝 From Laura’s Desk
This week is all about marketing—a topic that’s near and dear to my heart, because it’s what inspired me to start Front Office Rocks over 15 years ago in the first place.
Here’s what I kept seeing in dental offices:
🧩 Dentists would hire marketing companies, spend good money, and expect new patients to pour in.
But when those numbers didn’t go up? Two things typically happened:
![]() Gif by originals on Giphy | 1️⃣ They blamed the marketing company 2️⃣ They fired the marketing company too soon |
Marketing isn’t just about pretty websites or Facebook ads—it’s about how your practice shows up, and more importantly, how well your team supports the systems you’re paying for.
That’s why this week, as we dive into marketing and AI, I want to encourage you as a practice owner to not just “hand it off and hope for the best.”
Even if marketing isn’t your strength, you owe it to yourself (and your budget) to understand:
✅ What you're paying for
✅ What results to expect
✅ And now, how you can use AI to make better decisions—like vetting agencies, generating your own content, or tracking performance with more clarity.
AI won’t replace your marketing team.
But it can help you become a more informed, empowered leader who knows what’s working—and what’s not.
Let’s break the cycle of firing and hiring blindly. Let’s learn, lead, and market smarter—together.

🤖 Using “AI” in Marketing: Say It Only If You Mean It
As AI continues to make waves across industries—including dentistry—many companies are eager to slap “AI-powered” on their products and services. But here’s the thing: not everything that’s automated is truly AI—and misusing the term can do more harm than good.
A recent summary from industry groups, including the SCC (Subcommittee on Communications), reminds us of an important rule:
If it’s not real AI, don’t call it AI.
🧠 Why It Matters
Whether you're a dentist evaluating a new vendor or a company marketing to dental professionals, transparency is everything. Overselling basic automation as “AI” can erode trust, create confusion, and ultimately damage your credibility.
✅ What to Watch For (and Practice Yourself)
Only say “AI” if it’s truly artificial intelligence, not just rules-based automation or standard software.
Be honest about what AI does in your system—does it assist with data analysis, enhance workflows, or adapt and learn? Be clear.
Use AI to support, not replace, human expertise—especially in areas like messaging, branding, and patient communication.
Avoid exaggeration—generic, AI-written content without human creativity falls flat and doesn’t serve your audience.
📣 For Dental Practices & Vendors Alike
Using AI tools ethically—whether in your practice or your marketing—means being clear about what’s doing the work. Patients and professionals alike are becoming more savvy. They want innovation, yes—but they want it with honesty and purpose.
Remember: AI can enhance your marketing, but it can’t replace your voice, your vision, or your values.
Let’s use AI as a tool to lift up our work—not oversell it.💡Try it this week on one email and see how much easier it gets!

Is Your Website Speaking AI’s Language?
You don’t need to run off and rewrite your whole website today—but it’s important to start thinking differently about how your content is written and structured.
As AI-driven tools like voice assistants and smart search get better at recommending services (including dental practices), your content needs to evolve to match. That means:
Writing in a natural, conversational tone—think about how a patient would ask for what you do
Being clear about who you serve and what problems you solve
Structuring your content with headings, bullet points, and FAQs that make it easy for both humans and algorithms to understand
Example:
Old way: “We provide quality dental services for all ages.”
AI-friendly update: “Looking for a dentist who can treat your whole family? We offer cleanings, exams, and gentle care for kids, teens, and adults—all in one place.”
Why this matters: Even if you’re not using AI directly, it’s already influencing how patients find you. Start the conversation now with your marketing company. Ask them:
“Is our content structured for AI? Are we keeping up with how patients are searching today?”
This isn’t about a full overhaul—it’s about being strategic moving forward.
AI won’t fix bad marketing—but it can make good marketing faster, smarter, and more intentional… if we learn to use it right.
